Trust and Foundation Setup

Trust and foundation setup in Qatar

Trust and foundation in Qatar

Protect assets and plan succession.

Trusts and foundations separate assets from the person who owns them. Families use them to protect wealth, plan succession and keep arrangements private. In Qatar, both are available through the Qatar Financial Centre, the only jurisdiction in the country with a trust regime.

A trust is not a separate legal entity. Assets pass to a trustee, who holds them for the beneficiaries. A foundation is a legal entity with its own rights. It is run by a council and overseen by an enforcer. The right form depends on the assets, the family and the countries involved. Not every family needs one.

How we work

STEP 01

Our approach

We start with the assets, the family and the aims. We tell clients whether a trust, a foundation or a simpler arrangement fits, and what each means for control, cost and reporting. Where lawyers and tax advisers are already involved, we work alongside them.

STEP 02

Delivery

For a trust, we prepare the trust deed, arrange the trustee and register the trust with the QFC. For a foundation, we prepare the constitution, set up the council and the enforcer, and register and license the foundation with the QFC. A foundation also needs a registered representative and a registered office in QFC premises, which we arrange.
